Christian Mussetter (b. ca. 1748) is the earliest of the proved line. He is supposed to have come to America from the Alsace-Lorraine area, between the Rhine River and the Vosges Mountains. He may have had two brothers, Michael (b. ca. 1746) and Alexander (b. ca. 1745). Cristian and his wife Barbara had five known children, John, Christian, Sarah, Nancy, and Ruth in Frederick County Maryland.

Thomas Haughey emigrated from Ireland to Pennsylvania about 1725. His grandson, Thomas (1759-1847), a son of John Haughey, appears on tax records of Grayson County, Virginia, as early as 1794. Thomas married Violet Clanch (1769-1846) about 1786. They had twelve children. The family moved to Ohio about 1815, leaving one married daughter in Virginia. They settled in Greene Co., Virginia. Descendants lived in Ohio, Virginia, Iowa, Illinois and elsewhere.
