This book explores the practice and transmission of Lacanian and Freudian theory. It discusses the pure versus applied analysis of Lacanian and Freudian theory in practice; and the hierarchical versus circular transmissions within psychoanalytic organizations. Underpinned by extensive practical knowledge of the clinic, this work examines the differences between Freud and Lacan in their understanding of the subject and the unconscious and pushes them in new directions. The book also offers an analysis and commentary of several key Lacanian texts including an accessible study of the notoriously challenging text L'etourdit. Offering both divergent and reinforcing takes on Lacan, the author explores the traits that separate out the psychoanalyst from other twentieth-century thinkers and theorists. This book offers a clear clinical picture of where Lacanian psychoanalysis is today, both in the US and internationally.

The collection "Positions" is dedicated to the publication of artist's writings. John Miller perfectly embodies the aim of this series : to interrogate artistic and curatorial practices as well as theory, through the singular position of artists, involved in both their own and other artist's works. This production/reception question might even be a real dialectic in Miller's case. From his early writings, in fact, he argues that the artist has no other choice but to confront sociopolitical questions, the ideological apparat uses involved in the production of cultural "artifacts" and, therefore, the theoretical corpus (be it Walter Benjamin, the Frankfurt School, or feminist and poststructuralist writings) that enables one to (re) conceive these dimensions of artmaking. From "polemical" texts to extensive theoretical essays, passing through Ed Ruscha, Bruce Nauman or John Baldessari, these writings have proved to be among the most challenging ones.

A diverse group of dedicated poets, the Rhymers' Club provided the environment in which W.B. Yeats -learned his trade.- For the most part, however, these promising young writers passed into obscurity with the end of the Decadent age, leaving behind only incomplete or inaccurate information concerning their activities and character. This study brings together for the first time a comprehensive history of the group. It examines the Rhymers' influence on Yeats, both as a young and a mature poet, and the crucial ways in which he distinguished himself from his less successful contemporaries."
